(KRON) -- A man is dead after crashing head on into a tree on I-80 in Solano County early Sunday morning in what police suspect is a DUI.

The California Highway Patrol, Solano Area, responded to an automated iPhone crash notification on westbound I-80 near the Cordelia Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility scales just before 3 a.m. There, they said they found a silver 2014 Hyundai Elantra crashed into a tree.

Officers said the driver, the only occupant of the car, was trapped in the driver's seat unresponsive with no pulse when they arrived. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

"The California Highway Patrol, Solano Area, extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the young man lost in this tragic crash," CHP said in a statement.

Officers said that for some reason, the driver let the car veer off into the right shoulder before crashing into the tree. It appeared the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. It also appears alcohol was involved, but official toxicology reports have not been released yet.
