The October 10th event allowed children and parents the opportunity to conduct science experiments, learn about robotics, and more.

The 15th annual Celebrate Science Indiana Festival brought together thousands of students, families, educators, and science enthusiasts to the Indiana State Fairgrounds for a day of hands-on learning and exploration. Organized by the Science Education Foundation of Indiana, the festival has grown from a small community gathering into an event that attracts approximately 4,000 people each year. Attendees explored interactive activities involving robotics, health science, concrete-making, video game design, model airplanes, and more, connecting young people with professionals working in science and technology.

Robert Yost, the Executive Director of Celebrate Science Indiana, says the festival was created to introduce children to science early, encourage family learning, and complement what students learn in school. He says the event also gives children the opportunity to meet professionals who can help them envision careers in science, technology, engineering, and other STEM fields. “Science lives everywhere. Science doesn’t just live in classrooms.”

Glen Cook, the Executive Director of the Science Education Foundation of Indiana and a recently retired teacher with 38 years of experience teaching physics and chemistry, says the most rewarding part is watching children discover something new. He described science as being rooted in curiosity, explaining that seeing young people become excited about discovery makes the work worthwhile. He believes these early experiences can help students develop a deeper understanding of the world, pursue further science education, and eventually contribute to Indiana’s growing need for skilled science and technology professionals.
