Police are searching for a man who swiped roughly $100,000 worth of chains from a downtown Los Angeles jewelry store.
The theft was reported Saturday at about 11 a.m. at Del Amo Jewelry Inc., according to the store owner, Frank. The owner said the man asked to see a 14-carat Cuban chain and was shown a handful of options by an employee behind a jewelry counter.
Surveillance footage from the shop, which is located near the corner of 6th Street and Broadway, showed a man dressed in all black speaking with two employees.
“After looking a few minutes, he grabbed the chains, snatched the chains, grabs it and runs away, and nobody can catch him,” Frank, who asked not to disclose his last name, said.
The store’s employees were unharmed during the encounter, but the thief remains on the loose.
“If he brings back the whole merchandise, I will let him go,” Frank said. “But if not, I would definitely be going after him.”
Anyone with information on the case or who recognizes the man is encouraged to contact police.
